What is 'Altered Photography'?

I am not a professional photographer. That is an entirely different art form. Yes, I do use a camera in my work, but that is the easy part. The 'creativity' takes place when I compose an entirely new image on my computer. The process isn't as easy as one might think. I often morph two or more photos together, selecting and discarding various images, reconstructing the composition, all the while applying the principles of good design. Hopefully the end prodoct is an entirely new, never before seen work of art, pleasing to the eye.

I realize that altered photography isn't 'painting' in the traditional sense. I don't mix colors on a pallette, but choose colors from a 'virtual' pallette. The 'mouse' is my brush, the monitor's screen my canvas. There was a time when the artist ground his own pigments and mixed his own oil paints. Time and technology has a way of pushing the boundaries of tradition and, I for one, am willing to embrace that change. Still yet, I sometimes miss the smell of 'turps' and oils. -pk

What is 'Bricolage?  Bricolage defined, is something made or put together using whatever happens to be availabe. In my application I  use old books as a ground, and adhere two and three-dimensional objects to that ground, all the while keeping to a central theme. -pk
